We are delighted and indeed sincerely honored to welcome you to Accra, Ghana to the 15th Biennial Meeting of the Society of Neuroscientists of Africa (SONA 2021). SONA 2021 will be organized in collaboration with the Ghana Neuroscience Society (GNS) from the 27th to 30th of October 2021 under the theme, “Neurological disease in contemporary Africa”. As we reflect on manifold burdens that neurological diseases, this theme is appropriate and goes to the heart of the matters that affect our continent as neuroscientists in contemporary Africa. The challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic dictates that we use innovates approaches to commune as members of the scientific community. It is with this in mind that SONA 2021 is being organized in a hybrid format using a mixture of stimulating virtual experiences and face-to-face interaction for a section of participants who would be able to travel to Ghana to experience to the warm and serene atmosphere of Accra and the Fiesta Royal Hotel Accra, the venue.
The three-day meeting is expected to attract about 300 participants including basic scientists, clinicians and students from all parts of Africa and other continents. We are promising rich content and an engaging scientific experience infused with symposia and plenary lectures that will touch on the various frontiers of neuroscience research on the continent and beyond. There will be focused discussions on the burden of neurodevelopmental disease, neurological manifestations of infectious disease, the impact of cultural practices on neurodevelopmental/neurodegenerative disease neuroplasticity as well as neuroscience research in Africa. It is our hope that with the anticipated support, SONA 2021 will continue in the tradition of promoting neuroscience research in Africa and beyond.
We invite all participants to tap into this unique opportunity to share your work and promote your scientific interests as SONA 2021 will provide the platform disseminate knowledge in brain research. The Local Organizing committee will facilitate this and deliver a good neuroscience meeting using a mixture of virtual and in-person interactions that meet the standards of SONA and IBRO.
